Why is the interest in restorative yoga on the rise? It works!!! Created in 2003, Anjali Restorative Yoga is a highly regarded and respected, deep nurturing style of yoga. In this practice of thoughtful and intentional rest, the body is supported by bolsters, pillows, and blankets. The mind and breath are guided through gentle images and practices.
The practice of Anjali Restorative Yoga teaches a level of presence in the moment, as it is actually occurring. This reality-based practice brings the student moment by moment, in tune with one’s ability to notice and relax: bodily sensations, the breath, the mind, and the emotions. In this practice, one does do not strive to empty the mind of thoughts or stop the mind from thinking in order to access this meditative, present moment state. Rather, one bravely connects the mind to the sensations, health, and needs of the body. This uses the connection of the mind, body, and heart to encourage an innate power of healing.
